His Eye is on the Sparrow

One of my favorite passages in scripture is Matthew 10:29-31, it reads:  What is the price of two sparrows—one copper coin?  But not a single sparrow can fall to the ground without your Father knowing it. And the very hairs on your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are more valuable to God than a whole flock of sparrows.  Matthew 6:26 also reads . . . Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are?

I guess that would make sense as to why my favorite hymn is His Eye is on the Sparrow.  It was written in 1905 by Civilla Martin - she was inspired to write the song by a couple whom she and her husband knew.  The woman had been bed ridden for 20 years and the husband was a cripple, and they had a wonderful sweet, happy and inspiring life to those around them.  When Civilla's husband asked they lady why she had such beautiful hope, she replied "His Eye is on the Sparrow, and I know He watches me." After that encounter, this song was written . . . If you dont know the song or perhaps you just need a remind of how much God cares for you, have a listen to one of my favorite versions:

HIS EYE IS ON THE SPARROW
I sing because I'm happy,
I sing because I'm free,
His eye is on the sparrow,
And I know He watches me

His eye is on the sparrow
